A warm boot is a user-generated software reset of the operating system.
In WM 5.0, a warm boot will erase the entire /cache disk.
In WM 5.0, a warm boot will cause the disk cache to flush its contents to
flash, thus saving the data and files.
In WM2003, a warm boot will not erase the object store.
Object store
The object store is a RAM-based area that is used to store files and data
in a WM2003 Operating System. This concept is not employed in WM 5.0.
The object store is where the files and data are written to when a .cpy file
is executed at cold boot. It is also where user data and files are written by
the customer applications. Being a RAM-based storage area, it is
vulnerable to a failed/dead battery. It is also erased on a cold boot.
/Cache disk
A /cache disk (supplied by Symbol), identified as /cache disk in WM 5.0,
is an area of RAM set aside for the purpose of temporarily storing data.
In WM 5.0 the /cache disk is used to speed up the performance of the
operating system by writing data or files that are considered temporary
or non-critical, to RAM.
Disk cache
Disk cache (supplied by Microsoft) is an area of RAM that is set aside
for the purpose of queuing up data and files that are to be written to
persistent storage. This allows for fast data writes to a RAM area,
followed by the slower data writes to persistent storage, performed in
the background, as time allows.
